Last week once all the puja craze died down, I was fortunate enough to visit yet another factory. Unlike the first one which is run with older practices, this factory is completely high tech. Upon entering I was surprised to see how structured this place was. If you know about Calcutta companies, most of them are a mess even though they make a ton of money.
Anyway this place was clean, cold and a hundred large scale machines running at a time. They are responsible for 15 of the major Bengali newspapers that are printed and distributed throughout the day. during the day they work on private projects and some of the diaries and other writing articles you see on shelves are printed and produced here. They export all around the world. At night its a different story, in a span of 4 hours, they print missions of copies of newspapers and pack and ship them. Its quite interesting and efficient which I was most surprised by. BTW the company is called Sampan Printing, or something along that line.
I had the chance to meet with owner and find out how it all started and like every Bengali meeting, half the time we talked about family and medical problems and the rest on how things are run. Very insightful and I love the interesting ways these manufacturers work.
I have now been invited to visit another one of their factories which is larger than the one I went to. Looking forward to it and lets see how that goes.
