A surprise visit!

Well actually it wasn't a surprise for me but more for her parents. One of my very close friends flew in on the 28th and it was all planned that she would arrive as a surprise for her dads 65th birthday!. I kept my end of the secret and well first thing in the morning I went to pick her up from the airport. So from inside she called to see where I was and I was quick to say I was waiting outside but in actuality, I had just gotten there and didn't expect her to get her luggage and come out so fast.

Anyway, it was really good seeing her and like good times, noting had changed, same person and a little grungy from the long flight. I on the other hand have lost my track of time and don't bother getting anywhere on time because due to the Kolkata traffic, chances are I wont get there on time anyway!..... But it was refreshing and for some I was relieved to see her. I guess a familiar face makes a world of difference.

In the car we caught up on things and me being the planner I am, I had to stop by the phone repair place on our way back. This was meant to take two minutes and I wasn't about to sit through hell coming back there again but instead it took 15 minutes. I know it was hot and she was getting impatient and knew that her parents would start worrying if they didn't hear from her. So anyway it took what seemed like forever getting to her place.

To be clear she knows the roads just as much as I do even though she grew up here but anyway the driver seemed to find the oddest way to get to her place. through dirt and roads unused by cars we finally managed to get there. For a moment I thought she was slipping into depression from not being able to get home on time and thought the family would have left for lunch already. Luckily we got there just in time and as we were coming out of the car, her dad was getting out of the taxi. That's when I realized why she had pulled me without saying anything and made me sit with her behind the car like scavengers! While she explained to her husband over the phone where her dad was and when to ask him to come to open the door, I stared into the building next to theirs wondering what the hell she was talking about.

Anyway finally it all worked out and the rest is history :). A good ending to the 2 and a half hours drive back from the airport!

  1. your phone errand took 25 minutes, instead of 2! And, no I have never come home from the airport via entally and south sealdah!

    Still have jetlag though....
