Today is the second day of Vishwakarma Puja and unlike the kites flying around yesterday, today brought about a whole new group of people. Since this celebration is mainly celebrated by drivers and others in the mechanical, manufacturing field, the scene was quite different.
Driving around Kolkata this evening was quite interesting. Like every puja, there were several brightly lit temporary puja pandels, more commonly known as alters, erected all around town with mostly men hanging around them. The funniest part was that quite a few of them had music blasting, both Indian and English. One of them was even blasting Kasha singing tick tock. You know the dirty looking new comer to the music industry whose every song sounds the same.
Anyway with most of the mid size pandels, the common factor were the drunk men dancing like maniacs. It has to be one of the strangely finny things I've seen especially since all these places are on the side of some of the busiest streets in Kolkata and these guys did not seem to care one bit. I laughed like crazy and then I had to explain to the driver why I was cracking up. So you tell me how do you explain a scene from Borat, you know the one where he is at a disco in Kazakhstan, the one on the side of the street with a boom box and all the drunk guys dancing. I tried not to be confusing or be rude and eventually gave up! Wish I had a camera.
Another day, another adventure!
