Hati Bagan.... Translate..... Elephant Garden..

I don't want to confuse anyone so before I start, Hati Bagan has nothing to do with Elephants or Gardens..... Its more of a street lined with various clothing and trinket stores with people randomly bathing on the side of the road.

As much as I would like to express some of the negative thoughts from my initial view of the place, I have decided to be positive and only put down what I liked.... So as I mentioned before, its Puja season and everyone's out shopping and buying gifts and all that stuff. Its like Christmas for Hindu's and in particular Bengali's. The place is very similar to new market, which I have mentioned before in my blogs, but not as crowded. Or maybe I am beginning to overlook the crowds and trying to get used to it!

Anyway the main purpose was to buy a mass of gifts for various family members. The cost is better than new market and my mother, who I never thought was ever able to bargain, ended up showing me how to fight and pay the price she wants :). So after much looking around the trip was quite a success and I ended up having to drag all the stuff in the afternoon heat. one specific store we went to had no AC and the lady sitting next to us kept flipping through every sari laid out in front of her and proclaiming how the quality and the price was a guaranteed winner, almost as if she was working there.... I had this urge to yell at her saying " LADY THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES OTHER THAN DEATH AND TAXES", a line I never forgot from ' Meet Joe Black' :) anyway......  I was so amazed to see how well everyone went about buying gifts despite the heat, I forgot to take any photos but here are a few I got of the outside on our way back..... don't be fooled by the way it looks outside and as long as you can overlook the streets, the crowd and dirt, you are guaranteed to find some awesome bargains!
