Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan 2010

So today is Rahki and for those of you who dont know what it is here is a little info. It is a festival, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters and is celebrated on the full moon of this month. Anyway its quite family and friend oriented and even though I dont have a sister, people at home did a little something to celebrate.

So anyway my pishi / aunt who is from Oriya and has been with the family long before I was born and actually took care of my grandparents and some of my uncles and aunts, was one of the people who tied a rakhi just for fun. The other was China, the person who also stays with us and helps Pishi with cooking and cleaning. Together they manage the house. Here is a picture of my Rakhi.

So anyway it's quite fun and exciting and if I eat any more of the Bengali sweets, I think I am gonna get sick. As usual I woke up late only to learn that they were both fasting and are not meant to eat anything until they tied the Rakhi. I mean I feel terrible but they didn't seem to care. I really should start waking up a little earlier.

Overall I think I like these family oriented celebrations. Every day there is something going on and so you find something special about each day. I have to say regardless of where I live, I seem to have a great family bond going on whether it's friends or family, its all the same and I am quite fortunate for having all these people around me.
