Banking Convenience Then Annoyance

Banking in India is a whole new experience. Its so different from Zambia and the US...... I mean there are certain things that are very convenient and then there are certain practices that are a complete waste of time...

In the US and in Zambia, opening an account is easy simple and you work and invest at your own pace if you can. No one to call you constantly and bother you. You go to the bank and everything gets done quite fast. But noooo they can't make things as simple here in India.

So when I first went to open an account, I listed to the various options and decided on the type of account I want to open. Luckily I was able to open an account with the convenience of doing everything from home including Sunday banking and late night preferred customer brunch access and even call the bank and have someone come home and do the work instead of me having to go to the bank. Not that I need most of these services, but its nice to have the option. but to get the account open you have to provide almost every personal information including passport size photo's, I mean it's just short of asking you for a blood and organ donation. Anyway whatever....

Ever since I opened my account, I am getting constant calls from the bank asking if I can invest in their various long term and short term options... When I tell them I'm not interested and ask them with what money, they seem to get quite annoyed and starts asking me all sorts of questions..

Just this morning I got a call about the same thing and I told them politely, I dont have the funds and I would appreciate it if they stopped the calls. Telling them of my lack of interest was automatically followed by, well when can I call and what would be a good time.... I politely tell them NEVER. I dont get it, what part of  DO NOT CALL AND I AM NOT INTERESTED, do they not understand. Its one thing being an agressive sales person, but its another thing calling and harrassing customers. I'm all for increasing employment rate but come on! Enough is enough..... I've had it with them.

One day at a time I guess.
